Hulu and Spotify, streaming services that have begun offering bundles of their two services, have both revealed how many subscribers they have.
Hulu, the popular video streaming service, announced on Wednesday that they had more than 20 million subscribers, according to CNN Money. These numbers aren’t as high as Netflix’s, as CNN Money notes that Netflix has about 55 million subscribers in the United States. But the numbers still suggest Hulu is a decent competitor when it comes to the video streaming game.
They could also potentially gain more subscribers, as well, as some announced changes certainly seem enticing. Hulu, like Netflix, already has some of their own original programming (like the popular Handmaid’s Tale). Until now, though, Netflix offered something Hulu didn’t: offline watching. Hulu now plans to make content available to download and watch offline, says CNN Money. The content would still play with ads, but an internet connection wouldn’t be necessary.
Spotify announced their own numbers on Thursday. Spotify is a popular music streaming service that offers paid and free accounts. According to TechSpot, Spotify now has 75 million paid subscribers to their service, and the number of people who use the service every month is also huge: 170 million. And as TechSpot also mentions, Spotify’s 75 million paid subscribers is far above Apple Music’s 40 million. This only further cements Spotify as the major competitor in the music streaming arena.
Hulu and Spotify both offer their own separate subscriptions, but over the past months they’ve begun offering bundles, as well. Last year they began offering a student plan that bundled the two services for only $4.99 a month. And just last month, a bundle was announced for everyone else that would offer both services for just $12.99, which is higher than the student price but still a significantly less expensive option.
If you use Windows 10, you can now find iTunes in the Microsoft Store.
According to Ars Technica, iTunes is now available to Windows 10 users in the Microsoft Store. Ars Technica notes that bringing iTunes to the Microsoft Store was actually supposed to happen by the end of 2017, making its addition now a bit late. But it seems to be a welcome addition.
The program still works the same way as iTunes does if you download it straight from Apple, says Ars Technica, but they also note downloading from the Microsoft Store has some advantages. In particular, you won’t get prompts asking you to download other Apple products, plus it won’t install things that run in the background (which can seriously bog down a computer).
iTunes was previously available for Windows and MacOS. This means it was likely already accessible to many people who can find it in the Microsoft Store now. But there were also some people who now have access who didn’t before: those using Windows 10 S devices. Windows 10 S devices can only install programs from the Microsoft Store, so these users can now download iTunes. This is useful since iTunes is still a hugely popular service. It’s not just a music service, either; you can download music, movies, shows, podcasts, and more.
The Microsoft Store previously already offered other popular music programs. You could already find the streaming services Spotify, Pandora, Amazon Music, SiriusXM, TuneIn, and more. So if you’re simply interested in streaming and you have an account with any of these services, the addition of iTunes may not excite you much.
But if you specifically enjoy iTunes and like having a way to organize your media and access more than just music, this new platform may be good news for you. You can find iTunes in the Microsoft Store right now.
Music and TV lovers, good news! You can now bundle Hulu and Spotify and save some money.
Currently only available to Spotify Premium subscribers, you can currently try Hulu for only 99 cents a month, says TechCrunch, and after this three month trial, you will be able to get both Hulu and Spotify for a combined total of only $12.99. This saves about 5 dollars a month on the popular streaming services.
The bundled Hulu subscription will be the version of Hulu with ads, but this is still a great deal and good news for people who already use one or both of the services anyway. And if you don’t currently use either one, this summer you’ll get a chance to start trying them both for quite a bit less than before.
A Spotify and Hulu bundle is certainly not a new concept. As I wrote last year, the Spotify Student Hulu Bundle became available for students. This bundle gives students both Spotify and Hulu (with ads) for only $4.99 a month and is available right now. Students simply have to follow the verification process to prove they’re currently enrolled in an institution.
Of course, $12.99 is a bit more than what students pay. But it still saves a decent amount of money. According to TechCrunch, the deal will be available to everyone in the summer. For now, if you have Spotify Premium, you can head to their page and add Hulu for an additional 99 cents during your three-month trial.
And for those of you using Hulu, there’s even more good news: for a limited time, you can add HBO to your subscription for only $5 a month. CNET reports that the add-on, which is usually $15 a month, is currently available at a huge discount. If you sign up for HBO during this promotion, you’ll get the $5 a month price for six months before it goes back to the normal $15 a month.
Valentine’s Day is coming up soon, and whether you have a significant other or not, you may still want to make plans. And with so many specific sites and apps out there these days, it’s easier than ever to plan your February 14th by using your internet connection.
The internet can play an important role in how you prepare for any holiday. But with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it’s a good time to think about how you can make the day easier. You may not even know how many helpful apps and sites there are that cater to lovebirds, people who are looking, and people who are single.
If you have a special someone, or if you don’t have a date for the 14th yet (and even if you don’t want one), scroll through for some ways you can improve Valentine’s Day this 2018!
Find a date
There are definitely plenty of dating sites and apps to choose from. You can find more general sites, like most of the ones below, or you can narrow your search to sites that focus on a specific interest. If you don’t have a date for Valentine’s Day and you’d like to, you might find someone who’s looking for a date for the 14th themselves.
- Match—Match is the popular dating site that’s been around since the 90s. You can join for free, but to really use the site, you’ll need a subscription.
- Zoosk—Zoosk is another well-known dating site, this one started in the mid-2000s. Like Match, you can join for free, but you’ll need to pay to actually use their services.
- Tinder—If you want to try a free way to maybe find a Valentine’s Day date, give Tinder a shot. Keep in mind, people using Tinder have a wide variety of agendas, and it’s not like a dating site that has a detailed algorithm for matches.
- OkCupid—OkCupid has also been hugely popular for years. OkCupid also has a free version, as well as a paid version. With OkCupid, though, you can do more in the free version than other sites.
- Coffee Meets Bagel—This app is a newer dating option that began in the mid-2010s and has been gaining in popularity. You have suggested matches every afternoon who are chosen through their algorithm.
Plan an outing
If you want to go out this year, you have a few things to consider. Here are just a few ways you can plan your day (or night).
Look for special events in town—If you want to spend your Valentine’s Day going to an event you’ll both like, find out what’s happening nearby with something like Eventbrite, or search through Events on Facebook.
You don’t have to hit the town or take a trip to celebrate. If you do plan a night in, take a look and see if these apps and sites can make it special.
Cook—When you decide to try your hand at cooking a romantic dinner, download a cooking app like BigOven (Android or iOS) or Food Network in the Kitchen (Android or iOS) for a little extra help. Both offer thousands of recipes to choose from.
Order in—Maybe cooking isn’t really your thing. If that’s the case, you can always find food to order with apps like GrubHub and UberEats, both of which let you find what’s nearby and have it delivered to you.
Play music—Playlists and genre stations can help give your night atmosphere. You can always make your own playlist with Spotify or find a themed one, and Pandora has plenty of playlists for different occasions (including Love Songs Radio).
Give something nice
It’s not a requirement to buy something for your Valentine’s Day date, but it can be a nice gesture! If you think your date would like something for the occasion, here are some places you can find something for them without leaving home.
Sweets—Chocolates and other candies are an obvious (and usually well-liked) choice for Valentine’s Day. See’s Candies offers a lot of different options for candy. 1-800-Flowers may have “Flowers” in the name, but they also have a large selection of sweets. And Godiva has many different chocolate options. All of these sites specifically have pages dedicated to Valentine’s Day sweets.
Arrangements—Whether you want flowers or something a little different, an arrangement can be a nice gift. 1-800-Flowers has many, many different options for bouquets and other types of flowers. Shari’s Berries offers many different bouquets that can be paired with their berries (meaning you can order a bouquet with chocolate covered strawberries). ThinkGeek is a little bit different—instead of sending a bouquet of flowers, you might want to send a bouquet of plushies (like a bouquet of plush dragons).
Gifts—If you’re not sure what to get someone for Valentine’s Day, take a look at my list of gift finders! It includes several websites that offer gift suggestions and even let you buy the suggested gifts right there on the site.
Custom Valentine’s Day cards—You can always buy a card at a local store, but if you want something a little more personal, you can make your own card. Canva lets you create a card from scratch or choose from many different templates, and Shutterfly has a large selection of card choices that you can customize with things like text and photos.
If your significant other is going to be out-of-town on the 14th, or if your relationship is long-distance, Valentine’s Day may seem like a downer. But there are ways to make the day a little nicer from far away. Below are just a few ways you can make the day more romantic with some helpful apps.
Plan a scavenger hunt—If your partner is away, try planning something fun for them to do anyway. One popular scavenger hunt app, Klikaklu, lets you create your own hunts and then send them to a specific person (or make them public). It’s only available for iOS, but you can try something kind of similar with Seek&Spot, another scavenger hunt app that lets you create your own hunts.
Send poetry—If you’re not a poet yourself, don’t worry. You can find plenty of romantic poems to send on Valentine’s Day. Love Poems is available for Android, and it lets you search, save, and send poems. On iOS, you can try Valentine’s Love Poems for romantic poems you can share.
Keep in touch—If you’re long-distance, make sure you’re staying connected. Couple is an app that can be helpful on Valentine’s Day, since it lets you message each other, and it also has ThumbKiss, which is a feature that makes phones vibrate when both people press their thumbs to same spot on their phones.
There’s been plenty in this article for those who have a date or are looking for one. But being without a romantic date on Valentine’s Day is awesome, too. There are plenty of things to do if you’re single on February 14th. Here are just a couple ideas!
Find a Second Halloween—Some people are skipping Valentine’s Day and celebrating Second Halloween instead. Your town might be throwing a Second Halloween bash—search for “2nd Halloween” or “Second Halloween” on Facebook, narrow your results to “Events,” and see what you find!
Celebrate Galentine’s Day—Galentine’s Day is a popular way for women to celebrate on the 13th without worrying about romance. For many, it replaces Valentine’s Day celebrations. You can plan your own Galentine’s Day by using a site like RSVPify. Or if you’re new to town and looking for friends to invite, you might give Bumble a shot; Bumble is for finding friends, dates, business partners, and more, not just a dating site.
Tech Spotlight is back this week with even more fun and interesting tech! As usual, I’m sharing three tech products you can find on Amazon right now. This week, take a look at tech for entertainment, convenience, and learning!
This turntable from Innovative Technology makes it easier to listen to a variety of different music sources on the go or at home. Not only is it a turntable, it also lets you play music from your device using Bluetooth.
In addition to using Bluetooth, you can also plug other devices in, like speakers or headphones. Of course, it has its own speakers, so it’s not really necessary to plug in different ones. And since it comes in a suitcase with a handle, it’s easy to take anywhere.
Another interesting aspect of this turntable is its design. There are many different colors and patterns to choose from. If you like visually-pleasing tech, you’ll like this product. There are classic-looking colors, but there’s also a tie dye pattern and even a galaxy pattern.
Check out Innovative Technology’s turntable and Bluetooth music player if you’re looking for a fun, useful, and interesting way to play your music!
GNARBOX is a device for anyone who is serious about photography and carries a camera with them wherever they go. This device is one way to make sure you don’t lose any of your photos while you’re traveling, and it even lets you tweak and share your photos on the go.
Using GNARBOX, you can plug your camera’s card in and back up all your photos while you’re out. You can then use GNARBOX’s wi-fi to connect with your phone, allowing you to work on and share your photos. The app even lets you edit videos, not just photos.
The device is designed to be very portable and avoid wearing down. Its battery life is 4 to 6 hours, and it’s resistant to shock, dust, and water, which is helpful if you’re traveling out in the elements.
If you have a camera and want to be able to save, access, edit, and share your photos on the go, take a look at GNARBOX!
This Activity Set from Learning Resources is another offering in the fun-but-educational tech toys category. This set helps kids practice coding by giving them something fun to do and getting them involved. Many aspects of coding may appear less than fun at first, but this toy teaches while making it entertaining.
The Code & Go Robot Mouse has kids build mazes using brightly colored maze pieces. Then kids think it through and code the mouse to make it go around the roadblocks, moving through the maze to get to the toy cheese at the end. The mouse itself is also bright and fun-looking, and it also makes sounds, has lights, and moves at two different speeds.
The product description notes that this toy works on several important areas of learning. Kids can learn about critical thinking, as well as problem-solving. And of course, it introduces kids to basic concepts of coding. It does all this while keeping kids’ attention by being visually appealing and “hands-on.”
In the past, Reddit has seemed to some people like a confusing or inaccessible place on the web. There’s a little bit of an impression that it’s not really for everyone. But the truth is, Reddit is filled with all different kinds of content.
What is Reddit?
Reddit is a website that has multitudes of different online communities for people to join or follow. The different sections on Reddit are called subreddits. There are subreddits for all sorts of different things, like nature, music, television, film. You can follow more adult subreddits, or you can keep it PG—you have many options.
Redditors (people with a free Reddit account) can subscribe to whichever subreddits they’re interested in. Then when they come back to the site, they can either visit those subreddits individually, or they can scroll through their home feed that compiles posts from all the different subreddits they’ve chosen.
When you see a post, you can, of course, leave a comment on the post. You can also reply to other Redditors’ comments, and you can upvote or downvote a post or a comment. Upvoting means you liked it, while downvoting means you didn’t. If a comment is downvoted enough, it will likely be removed.
Subreddits to get you started
If you want to find interesting content on the web, Reddit is the place to be. There’s really something for everybody. And on that note, in this article, I’m going to go over 9 popular and/or interesting subreddits you might want to start out with!
Keep in mind, reddit metrics shows that there are currently over 1.2 million subreddits. That’s a lot to choose from. If you don’t see anything here that gets your attention, just search for your favorite topics!
What it’s about: AskScience focuses on answering science-related questions. You can use this subreddit to ask a question, look through previously answered questions, or answer a question yourself (if you have sources and research to back up your answer).
Activity: AskScience has 15,020,978 readers right now. There are quite a few posts every single day. Some of the posts have hundreds of comments on them.
Some popular and recent post titles:
- “Are the shadows of other planets cast onto earth, similar to that of an eclipse?”
- “Which fundamental force does dark energy use?”
What it’s about: EarthPorn is, despite its name, a completely safe-for-work subreddit that centers on landscape photography. Only photos are allowed—not other artwork. Also, it must be only of a landscape. There can’t be people or man-made objects in the pictures.
Activity: EarthPorn has 14,688,608 subscribers at the time of writing this article. There are plenty of posts on a daily basis. Posts might have a couple comments or even more than a thousand.
Some popular and recent post titles:
- “A beautifully clear piece of ice on Iceland’s Diamond Beach”
- “Solitude in snowy woodland in Norway”
What it’s about: InternetIsBeautiful is built around sharing and appreciating websites that are unique, interesting, or downright pretty. Redditors are not allowed to post about websites everyone will likely already know or websites that might be malicious. Only websites that offer something cool or unique or that are beautifully designed can be shared.
Activity: InternetIsBeautiful has 12,797,499 subscribers at the moment. Posts are more sporadic; there are not usually daily posts. However, when something is posted, it might receive hundreds of comments, sometimes even getting more than a thousand comments.
Some popular and recent post titles:
- “Find all the quirky places along your road trip”
- “A website that lets you control robots LIVE with cameras!”
What it’s about: ListenToThis is all about finding new music that you probably haven’t ever heard before. Mainstream artists, or artists that people post about often, aren’t allowed to be posted about. Instead, Redditors are invited to share music by artists that aren’t as well known or appreciated as they maybe should be.
Activity: ListenToThis has 12,625,636 subscribers right now. There are a lot of posts every day. In fact, as I write this article, I tried to count how many posts had been made in the past 24 hours, and I stopped after a few dozen. Most posts typically seem to get just a few comments, but some get hundreds of responses.
Some popular and recent post titles: Post titles might not be helpful in describing this subreddit. Instead, here are some of the genres listed in recent titles!
- “Space Rock / Alternative”
- “Jazz Funk”
- “Gothic Country/Folk”
- “Electro Swing”
What it’s about: MildlyInteresting encourages posts with content that is, as you might guess, mildly interesting. This subreddit doesn’t intend to go for shock value or insanely interesting facts. Instead, Redditors share things that are…kinda interesting. It has more laid-back, chill content that isn’t relying on clickbait.
Activity: MildlyInteresting has 13,708,595 as I write this article. There are usually numerous posts every day. Some posts have a few responses, some have hundreds, and some have thousands.
Some popular and recent post titles:
- “The Chicago river melted and refroze to create this mosaic”
- “These crayon candles all have different coloured flames.”
What it’s about: NotTheOnion is all about sharing news articles that sound fake but that are actually real. They might sound like titles from a satire site, but they’re not. Fair warning: some of the posts are about news articles with serious or adult content. However, most of the posts are simply weird or eyebrow-raising. If you don’t mind some slightly not-safe-for-work article titles showing up in your home feed, and if you want to read some strange or out-of-the-ordinary news, this subreddit is for you.
Activity: NotTheOnion has 12,927,090 subscribers at the moment. A good number of articles are posted each day. Some posts just have a handful of comments, but posts can gain in popularity quickly if the article is strange or entertaining enough—in fact, a very recent post has already received over seven thousand comments.
Some popular and recent post titles:
- “Dude, you’ve got a snake in your car: Note left for driver”
- “Pennsylvanians asked to eat roadkill 3,300 times in 2017”
What it’s about: OldSchoolCool is all about photos and videos of cool folks from the past. Old-school images or videos are posted, with people looking vintage and awesome.
Activity: OldSchoolCool has 12,457,327 subscribers right now. There are multiple posts to check out every day. Posts have a chance of receiving hundreds or even thousands of comments, though most receive much fewer.
Some popular and recent post titles:
- “Mark Twain holding his pet kitten (1909)”
- “A portrait of my grandpa (1950s)”
What it’s about: TalesFromRetail is a place to write, read, and respond to posts about life working in retail. You can find posts about co-workers or customers. Some posts are very brief, while some are extended encounters or discussions. If you have a story from retail or want to read other peoples’, this is the place for it.
Activity: TalesFromRetail has 402,660 subscribers right now. Redditors post here every day. Depending on how wild or relatable the story is, a post could get hundreds of comments.
Some popular and recent post titles:
- “Lady, we don’t sell that here!”
- “I run a store, not a daycare”
What it’s about: WritingPrompts is a subreddit for writers and readers. People are encouraged to post writing prompts. Then Redditors respond with their own short stories that meet the prompt. This is a great subreddit for people looking to keep active with their writing, but it’s also fun to read peoples’ responses to the prompts.
Activity: WritingPrompts has 11,954,383 subscribers at the moment. There are plenty of prompts to choose from each day. A lot of prompts get a handful or maybe a few dozen comments. But if the prompt is inspiring enough, it could get hundreds of responses.
Some popular and recent post titles:
- “Your dog is secretly a high ranking member of the canine mafia. Their rival, the feline triads, have put a price on your head.”
- “You buy an old saw from a pawn shop. You discover instead of cutting wood, it cuts reality.”

With 2017 wrapping up and 2018 quickly approaching, it might be difficult to keep up with everything. There are the holidays to get through, and with the new year, there might be some expectations or plans to keep up with. If you’re feeling a little unprepared for 2017 to come to a close, here are just some ways you can get ready, as well as some ideas for taking care of yourself!
Use an app for your resolution(s) or goals
Do you have a special New Year’s resolution? Many people come up with resolutions to better themselves or do something specific. Many people also forget about their resolutions not too far into 2018. The good news is, you can use the internet to focus on keeping your resolutions!
Even if you don’t have a resolution, you might have decided on some goals to meet over the course of the year. Here are some apps that can help!
Coach.me is an app that helps users form new habits. If you’ve set a goal to work on your diet, be more productive, or otherwise change your habits, Coach.me can help. It’s available for Android, iOS, and the web. You get access to “coaches” who help you stay on track and work to meet your goals.
GoalsOnTrack is software that helps you set and meet goals, change habits, and complete tasks. You can set goals with milestones and actual achievable end results, then follow your progress. Your habits can be linked to certain goals, as well. There’s even a vision board so you can practice visualization. This software works for Android, iOS, and the web.
irunurun is another goal-setting app that focuses on setting attainable goals and staying accountable for your progress. Your goals can be given a certain weight or value depending on how important it is. You can score points and look at your progress. You are also held accountable by being on a team—others can see your progress, which makes reaching your goals a little more competitive, as well. irunurun is available for iOS and the web.
Way of Life is a good option if you’re into visuals. You can set goals and work on your habits, then look at a visual representation of your progress. There are bar charts and pie charts, plus a scoreboard. There are also many other features that help you keep up with your goals and habits. Way of Life is available for Android and iOS.
Use websites or apps for your New Year’s Eve party
Planning a New Year’s Eve party? Don’t stress. There are quite a few ways you can use the internet to easily plan your party.
Use countdown videos
If you don’t like (or don’t have access) to the typical live countdown on New Year’s Eve, you have options online! YouTube has plenty of NYE countdowns available. For instance, you might like to simply play the London Fireworks published by BBC or the Sydney Fireworks from ABC TV. There are also countdown videos with interesting effects, like this countdown video by Mandy Mathy. You can almost certainly find one that suits your party’s style.
Use a Spotify playlist
Don’t worry about music for your party! Spotify users have already made playlists for New Year’s Eve. Searching through them, you can find one that you think your guests will like. There’s the “Ultimate Party Playlist” or the “2018 New Year’s Eve NYE Party Playlist.” Or you could get a playlist started and let your friends add to it as the party gets closer.
Make planning simpler
Check out my article called “Organize Your Upcoming Events Online” for ways you can use the internet while planning your NYE shindig!
Know your resources for stress and other concerns
Many people struggle with things like stress and depression around the New Year. The holidays can be a stressful time, and they can be difficult for some. The best thing you can do for yourself is see a health professional so you can talk through your concerns. However, in the meantime, here are some apps or websites you might check out for self-care during the New Year:
Tech Spotlight is back this week with more cool and useful tech! Each week, I’m finding the most interesting or helpful tech-related products on Amazon and telling you all about them. With the new year quickly approaching, consider starting 2018 right with some fun new tech!
Roav is a simple-looking device that can do much more than you might expect. Roav plugs into your car’s lighter socket and helps take care of your music, charging, calling, and car finding needs. It uses Bluetooth or FM radio to let you play your music through your car’s stereo system. You can also use Roav for a hands-free device to make calls while you’re in your vehicle.
While you’re listening or talking, you can charge your devices—it has two USB ports for car charging, and it’s designed to charge quickly. It’s described as using “high-speed charging” no matter what charging cable you’re using and regardless of what device it is.
It also helps you keep track of what’s going on with your car. Using Roav’s app, you can keep up with how your car’s battery is doing. You can also take steps to avoid losing your car. If you’re parking somewhere confusing, or if you tend to forget where you’ve parked in the parking garage, you can use the Roav app to take a picture of your car, set a timer so you don’t run out of time on your meter, and even place a pin at your car’s location so you can find it later using the map.
Roav by Anker is a great multi-purpose device that could potentially consolidate a number of other devices you’re thinking of getting for your car. Take a look at Roav to make your car’s tech a little more convenient.
This set of headphones from Mpow is a well-reviewed and affordable choice for your listening needs. The Bluetooth headset works with PCs, phones, TVs, and any other devices with Bluebooth capabilities. It has hi-fi sound and can be used wirelessly or with the cord Mpow provides. Whenever the battery runs low, all you have to do is plug it in and charge it.
The headphones go over your ears, and they use a “memory-protein ear cushion” that’s designed to be soft and comfortable. You can also adjust the headphones so they fit properly. Also, the sliders you use to adjust the headphones are also used to fold them for easy carrying.
Mpow’s headphones also work well for hands-free calling. The headset has a microphone built in, so you can make calls when you’re using the headphones wirelessly.
If you’re looking for great headphones at a great price, check out Mpow’s Bluetooth Headphones!
The Genius Kit from Osmo is a great way to take your own devices and turn them into educational tools for the young ones in your life. Osmo Genius Kit requires an iPad to use. With your iPad, there are five available games that let kids (ages 5 to 12) use their hands and learn about subjects like math and spelling.
The Genius Kit also helps kids practice certain skills. For instance, the Masterpiece game helps with drawing skills. The Tangram game works on spatial thinking, and the Newton game lets kids work on their problem-solving skills.
The product looks simple, with the stand for your iPad and some game pieces, but all together, Osmo Genius Kit makes an iPad something completely different. Kids can learn important subjects with just one device and the Genius Kit. Consider getting the Osmo Genius Kit for a child in your life!
Every week, I’m spotlighting at least three tech-related items you can purchase on Amazon! In this week’s article, I’m focusing on some fun and somewhat off-beat products for all ages (and for pets). With the holidays drawing nearer, you might even add some of these to your holiday shopping lists. Even better, go ahead and buy these now and take advantage of that beautiful Prime shipping.
Star Wars Droid Inventor Kit
This kit lets kids (or adults, let’s be honest) follow instructions to build their droid. After the droid is built, it can learn different skills and undertake missions. Kids can also customize the appearance of their droids and move the different blocks around to set their droid up in a new way. Some of the things you can do with this toy are mentioned on the product page, like use “Force Mode” to move the droid around, navigate using a joystick in the phone app, and enable an “Intruder Alarm.” This R2 unit is meant to be continually changed and added to by rearranging the blocks and getting new kits to mix things up. The product page also mentions how the droid can be customized with “household items.” You might want this cool tech toy for the kids in your life, since it is directed at children. But of course, it could make a pretty fun toy for Star Wars fans of all ages.
Petcube Bites Pet Camera
This pet camera is a particularly fun way to keep up with your pet(s) while you’re out of the house, because you’ll be using more than just the typical video and audio. There are lots of pet cameras out there, but this one has some cool special features. As you’d expect, you can set up the camera in your home and check in on the video stream using the Petcube app, and you can share clips with other people after the videos have been caught by the camera. It has a motion and sound detector to capture different moments while you’re gone, and it has two-way audio so you and your cute companion can talk to each other. Possibly the coolest part, though, is the attached treat dispenser. While you’re out, you can open the Petcube app and use it to throw a treat to your pet. The product comes with some sample treats, and after they’re gone, you can use your own. (Take note—depending on the treat size, more than one treat might be thrown when you tap to throw.) This device could be really great for pets that become anxious when they’re left home alone. It gives its users a way to communicate with their pets and reward them for doing tricks or behaving well while they’re gone. If you’re interested in a pet camera, this is a great one to check out.
Phonotonic Move to Make Music
This product is a cool way to entertain yourself and your friends by making music with your movement. Phonotonic is a device you hold in your hand and move around to create music. You can use the connected app to pick different tracks, and you can save the music you make to share with other people. You can move the device to create rhythm and melody, and if you have more than one Phonotonic, they can work together. You can even take the sensor out of the device it comes in and place it in something else instead. It comes in different colors (cyan, yellow, and fuchsia) and is rechargeable with a micro USB. College students, rejoice! Spotify and Hulu have joined together to offer the Spotify Student Hulu Bundle. Students who are attending an eligible college or university can take advantage of a new bundle that offers Spotify and Hulu for $4.99 a month. If you already paid for Spotify Student, this new bundle essentially gives you Hulu as an added bonus. The Spotify & Hulu bundle is available for new users and old, as long as they’re attending an accredited institution. This is fantastic news for college students, especially those who already pay for one of the services.
New and returning users can get the bundle by going to the Spotify Student page and get started with the process. To get a student plan, Spotify makes sure that you’re a student currently enrolled in college. In addition to the typical information you might enter for a new account, they ask for information like which college you’re attending. They use a third party called SheerID to verify that you really are a student. Whether you’re a new Spotify user or someone just switched to Student from a regular Premium account, Spotify will switch you over to a Student account once you’ve been approved.
During the account activation process, you’ll be asked to connect with Hulu. If you don’t have Hulu yet, don’t worry—you’ll be given a chance to start your account. If you already have Hulu and you’re using the same email on both Spotify and Hulu, the Hulu registration screen should show that your email address is already linked to an account. Just click to log in, enter your password, and sign in to your Hulu account.
If you’re already a Spotify Student user, and you just want to add Hulu to your account, all you need to do is log in to Spotify, visit the Spotify Student page, click “Get Started,” and follow the on-screen prompts. Spotify will tell you that you already have Spotify Student and ask if you want to add Hulu (why bother asking, honestly—who wouldn’t want free Hulu?). Just click through to either create a new Hulu account or link your existing one.
Keep in mind, of course, that this service is only available as long as you’re a student. Spotify sends reminders each year to re-activate Spotify Student by proving your enrollment status again. So you may not be able to keep this $4.99 bundle forever, but it’s definitely a much-needed perk while you’re battling your way toward graduation.
