A question I hear all the time: how much internet speed do I need?

I like to think of Internet Speed like electricity, I don’t know how many watts or amps I have coming into my house, but I know if I have my TV, Air Conditioning and other electronics going, I still want my microwave to work. This is how I look at Internet Speed. I don’t care how many megabytes or gigabytes I have, I just want my devices to work when I use them.

Some companies will oversell by pushing 200 or 300 megabytes. Generally, that is way too much for a household. No one wants to wait for buffering or lagging on gaming or streaming. But, no one wants to pay for something they don’t use.

Fast internet is not exclusive to certain companies. For instance, EIN offers up to 1,000 megabytes (One Gigabyte). This is incredibly fast!

But back to the question.

How much speed to I need to succeed?

  • Well, my household is just one very-connected person. So I use 12 megabytes. It’s perfect for me. I can connect my TV, tablet, laptop, mobile phone and security cameras. I stream all of my content without any issues.
  • If you have a busier household with multiple people streaming, playing online games or using the internet at the same time then consider 50 megabytes or more.  The 50 megabytes upload and download is fast enough for 98% of households out there.
  • If you are in the 2% of households that need even more, consider 100 megabytes+. My advice is to start lower and increase speed if you find it’s not enough. That way, you aren’t overpaying.

The fine print.

EIN’s transparent pricing makes it easy to compare plans. The monthly price includes equipment, taxes, and services. You’ll never see an increase in your monthly cost. The 12-megabyte package is $55/mo. The 50-megabyte package is $60/mo. Not all packages are available everywhere, so click here to check your availability. And, install fees may apply.
